Live Lavender Information

Fields

The mesmerizing beauty of our lavender field is brought to life through a symphony of color and motion. The real-time data of wind speed, humidity, CO2, and temperature are transformed into a stunning display of particles that dance and react to changes in the environment. As the gentle breeze rustles the lavender fields, it sends ripples of color and movement throughout the visualization. Lose yourself in the hypnotic swirl of particles as the temperature rises and falls, and feel the pulse of the farm as it breathes in harmony with the natural world.

Lavender Field

In addition to our two established fields with eight varietals of French and English lavender and a total of 4000 plants, we planted a third field of Imperial Gem lavender, an English variety in June 2022. Our new 1100 plants did well and spent the winter covered to prevent frost and wind damage. They will bloom for the first time this year.

Lavender Shed

To document not only the growth of the plants, but also the influence that the natural environment has on them, we partnered with artist and professor Jane Tingley from the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design at York University. Jane specializes in practice-based computational arts to creatively engage with the climate crisis to foster awareness.

Her project Foresta-Inclusive makes perceptible to the human senses, the slow and subtle movements of trees and plants and invites us to listen to and learn from the natural world.

About pods

We have installed sculptural sensor pods or ecosensors onto tree trunks at the farm, in order to link the environment of our lavender fields to this website. These pods are WIFI enabled and sense phenomenon such as: soil temperature, soil humidity, particulate matter in the air, light level, air temperature/humidity, wind, CO2, and rain. These ecosensors send live data to an Internet based platform, which is then visualized on our webpage. Enjoy experiencing, at least visually, what the lavender plants sense as they grow and move through the day and the night. Slowly, they will grow into mature plants and bath our senses with beautiful colour and scent, to bring us happiness for many years to come.
